there is love

wedding
song of the day: 'the wedding song' by paul stookey
wow. so much to say. i'll start with the wedding on sunday. it was lovely and long and very hot. i do believe that i mentioned that the chapel didn't have any air conditioning? well it didn't and at 3:00 on sunday afternoon it was fairly stifling. everyone in the place was fanning themselves with the program. however, no matter how hot it was, it was still not appropriate to wear a denim romper to the wedding. really. a girl (and by 'girl' i mean someone that is at least 20 and much too old to think it's okay) wore one that she probably picked up at f21 the day before. i was so appalled that i took a picture of her. i may post it later with some other vacation pics. anyways....it was a catholic ceremony so there was a complete mass included in with the nuptials. and an hour later, our friends became man and wife. it was sweet. after a champagne toast, they left the church in a cute antique car.

the reception, oh the reception. it was fantastic!! now i've been to a couple guatemalan weddings and they are pretty spectacular. this one was amazing. first off, there was a cocktail hour with about 7 tables of full on hors d'oeuvres. there was a table of different cheeses that someone would cut fresh for you, a sushi bar, sausages and shrimp cocktail and on and on. a full open bar all night long. for dinner, there were three courses. the first was a salad all dressed up and fancy, next came a veal cannelloni, and the entree was your choice of four different meals. i chose steak, matt chose lamb. so very delicious. all mixed in was fabulous music by the house band who happened to be super awesome. we danced like a bunch of crazy people and had a blast. then at about midnight, we went back into the first room for some light jazz, dessert, and your choice of hard liquor. of course our choice was single malt scotch. it was pretty amazing. my pictures were taken outside of the reception area. it was so pretty and a very romantic setting for a wedding celebration.

the light was fading by the time we took these. that's why they're a bit fuzzy. but i was determined to show you this dress. i think it's my favorite vintage dress ever. i do need better undergarments for it though.

i bought my shoes at a little store in the city. i love them! they're super comfortable and very unlike any shoes i've ever had. kinda like boots but not really. i don't know. i love them though.

so we got back to the hotel at around 1:00 in the morning on monday. we got up at 5:30 to pack so we could leave by 6:30. a few of our friends were flying out at around the same time so we all piled in the car to make the trek back to laguardia. with monday morning traffic, it took us about an hour and a half to drive in from new jersey (which was where the reception was, we only stayed there the one night). of course our flight was delayed because of weather resulting in us sitting in the airport for 4 extra hours and missing our connecting flight to minneapolis. when we get to minneapolis, we find out that all the other flights going out to our area were either full or done for the day. we had to fly into springfield, missouri and rent a car to drive another 2 hours to my parents' house. we got in around 11:30. our bags managed to make it to tulsa so we had to pick them up over there and drop off the rental car at yet another airport here in arkansas. really, yesterday was the longest day ever especially after only 4 hours of sleep and a slight hangover. we went through five different states to get home. i'm still exhausted. but it was worth it. hopefully, i'll get some rest and be back to my normal schedule tomorrow.
