i think i love you

ysl
song of the day: 'i think i love you' by the partridge family
so this is the yves saint laurent blouse i found at the thrift a few weeks ago for only $5!!! i don't think i've ever owned something that was an actual name (since i am still not convinced of the authenticity of my 'balenciaga' bag). i know it really shouldn't be a big deal. i mean, am i really a slave to designers? do i feel as though i'm cooler and fancier somehow because i know what's on the tag of my shirt? well, yes. ha! i do feel awfully fancy driving around town in a mercedes, never mind that it's 26 years old, lost it's clear coat and the chrome trim on the passenger side so it looks as though there are bullet hole along the doors. but brands can make you feel and act a different way even if you don't want it to. and even though this blouse was someone's cast off, i feel very fortunate to have been the one to discover it hanging on the rack at salvation army. so there. i am shallow :)

I just thrifted a YSl blouse last week too but I don't know if it's real or a knock-off from a Korean market.
I definately feel a bit different when I wear something name brand... actually maybe it's a bit of snobbiness that comes with wearing quality. And while people may see me and think it all looks wired, I feel secure in my silk or wool shell. Does that make sense at all?

i too am not a brand whore...in fact, i stay away from labels most of the time.

i DID however recently thrift a Dooney and Burke bag that i snatched up to sell. but the shape and quality of it kept calling me..."don't list me! cant you see how well i go with everything in your closet, lisa? you love my cognac leather trim and navy blue body?" ahhh, D&B bag yes i do! but i take comfort in the fact that its the bag itself i like, i could care less about the brand. it does help that i feel a liiiiiiiiiittle hoity-toity sporting a vintage designer bag around my snooty co-workers, though.

it is so funny you were listening to the Partridge Family album. I have all their records and had a David Cassidy obsession as a teen (even though I am 26 only now). . .I have been reading his autobiography this week.

this outfit is so extremely lovely. It is one of my favourites!

I think I love this (and you)! what a great find!

and I think its ok to feel fancy because you are sporting a designer piece...especially when its a $5 find. that makes it even more special to me!

i totally understand the pull of a designer brand name, even though it isn't something i'd say is anywhere the top of my list of priorities, clothes wise. i found a vintage givenchy blouse in an op shop earlier in the year, for only a few dollars, and i mean, i think it's ugly as heck (maybe? it has a certain charm and i do intend to wear it at some stage...) but it makes me grin when i remember seeing the tag for the first time!!!

your designer blouse is, on the otherhand, really very nice! and the colours suit you so well

Nothing wrong with being excited about a designer piece at a killer price! And what's even better is that it's such a pretty one too! And I LOVE the bronze oxfords btw.

Well, it can't hurt that the blouse is totally amazing and looks great on you. I know personally that when I don my Chanel sunnies I feel super confident and spiffy. So I agree about the designer brands making one feel...something, it isn't shallow though. It's something else.

Perhaps the way a stamp collector feels when he/she finds that illusive rare stamp? Because isn't that what we are all thrifting for? shangri la, jackpot, ysl blouse for five bucks? holla.
