peanuts and cracker jacks

naturals baseball
what's more american than baseball? apple pie maybe, but we went the sports route and cheered on our arkansas naturals last night. it was stiflingly hot and our team lost 14-3 but we made loads of memories and had tons of laughs. after about 4 hours of game play, the local philharmonic put on a mini (read very long) concert full of patriotic tunes and then they set off some pretty glorious fireworks. we didn't leave the ball park until 10:30 and my poor kiddo was wiped out. we had to carry him to his bed and he went peacefully (and sweaty and sticky) to sleep. such a fun night.
living the high life
matt got the big boy for the game. in ball park terms this beer is quite a bargain.
sweet head
isaiah was really into the game for the first couple hours.

wild weekend

friday
what a weekend we had!! yikes.
k, so this was friday. it started out beautiful! warm and sunny, i even got to sun myself out on the deck in the afternoon. i was actually a little too hot to wear this long sleeve shirt. just delicious.

then came the storms. we were on our way to a friends house in tulsa (1.5 hour away), and got about 5 minutes down the road when the tornado sirens went off. awesome. the sky looked CRAZY SCARY. the wall cloud was right in front of us. we turned around to come back home, and thankfully, the worst of the weather went just north of us. but this pic was right as the storm was passing.
friday
this was the gorgeous ride over to tulsa. the sky was golden and the setting sun made the prettiest streaks in the sky. behind us, there was another storm, but our drive was rain free.
friday
we met our friends stacy and david at casey's house around 9pm. it was late, but super fun.

i LOVE this pic! it's so typical matt. he has a photo face, and this is pretty much it. but even better is david in the background!
friday
it was a wildly busy weekend but full of great memories. i was really disappointed yesterday when the torrential rain that lasted ALL DAY LONG prevented me from wearing my easter dress or really doing anything but laying on the sofa after church. oh, well. here's to monday!

cabin number 5

friday afternoon we packed up riesling and drove to the lake for a few days of relaxing, fire building, grilling, and card playing. it was an extremely good time.
camping
our humble abode for the weekend. she don't look like much, but she sure kept us cozy.
camping
mike and kari roasting some 'mallows after dinner on friday.
camping
saturday morning after breakfast, we drove into town and went to the fayetteville farmers market. it was packed (and cold), but we ran into some other friends while we were there.
camping
we had lunch and did some thrifting in town, then picked up a few more groceries for dinner and headed back to the homestead. it finally warmed up a bit so we got out the bocce set for some lawn games.
camping
this is probs my favorite pic of the whole weekend. the boys went out gathering kindling for the grill with scotch in hand.
camping
our cabin was right next to the walking trail. we never went walking.
camping
and some grilled potatoes with our breakfast on sunday morning before heading out of the wilderness and back to reality.
we had a great time, made loads of memories, and cracked lots of jokes. the best party is sharing it with friends :)

in the navy

navy
hmmmmm, i maybe wasn't super happy about how my photos came out today. but i am super happy about what this shirt means to me. when i went to tahoe, i was the last to arrive. all the other girls got in early and were able to do some thrifting in reno while they waited for my plane to get in. christina, paige, merl, zoe, and emily picked out and bought this rad us navy shirt for me. i love it! the cropped length is awesome and the fit is right on. but i mostly like that they thought of me and wanted to include me in the fun even though i was about 30,000 feet above them at the time. friends are great :)
and i'm so thankful to have made so many amazing friends over the last few weeks. i'm such a lucky girl!!!!!

keep the love that keeps us strong

3/1
song of the day: 'friends are friends forever' by michael w. smith
starting to get back into the swing of things since my vacation. and yesterday was so warm i was almost too hot in my sweater! i love that spring is almost here. it's such a refreshing season. like you can kind of start over with things and have a renewed sense of energy and zest for life. i'm looking forward to a boost in motivation. i've been feeling so closed in, literally and emotionally, and am craving connections. i think that's one thing (of many) that spending time in tahoe taught me. i need to connect more. not on a superficial level, but where i can really develop a relationship. i've been pulling away lately and i don't want to keep doing that. but i want fewer surface friendships so i can focus more on quality friendships. i think i've been really reluctant to do that. i mean, it's hard to invest. but when you finally do it, it's totally worth it. because if nothing else, you want to be able to open up, expose all the insecurities, the ugly, the shameful, the scared, the strong, the beautiful, the delicate things that live inside and be accepted. that's what we want almost more than anything, to be accepted and be loved.
3/1
and did you notice a difference in my hair? i got a new style while in tahoe!! christina (second skin) graciously agreed to cut my hair and i love it! i have it pulled up, it's not actually that short. it's super cute and sassy, and well, matt loves it too :)
