absolutely perfect

6.5
i had a very chill weekend. went running then worked at my shop. matt headed to the farmer's market and picked up the best spinach i've ever had in my life! made and ate a ton of salads and hummus. drank wine. fell asleep on the couch. got some frozen yogurt to celebrate summer vacation. washed the cars. and had an amazing sunday night dinner with friends. it was the kind of weekend i wish would never end. absolutely perfect :)
how was your weekend????

and i love this little sweater! the sweet islabell (a fine day for sailing) sent this to me about a week ago. she saw it and immediately thought of me so she wanted me to have it!!!! she couldn't have picked anything better. i love it to bits. the fit is right on and i've already worn it twice because i love it so much. it is no secret that her blog is one of my new obsessions. she is currently trotting the globe on a fantastic vacation, but make sure you head over and check out her travel pics and guests posts. she's awesome!

my favorite food

if you follow me on twitter, you've most likely heard of my intense obsession with hummus. i could eat it all day every single day. give me hummus, wine, and sour candy and i'll be set for LIFE. i've been making my own for a while now. it's cheaper, tastier (in my opinion :) and healthier. so i thought i'd share with you guys just how i make the magic happen.
Picture 4
i buy a bag of dry chickpeas. i used to do the prepared ones in the can, but didn't really care for the extras in there from the processing. plus, i need my chickpeas in bulk. i soak them overnight in my crockpot so they'll be ready to go in the morning. the next day, i drain the water and fill with fresh to cook them. i set the crockpot on high and let go for about 6 hours. then i drain that water and let them cool.
Picture 6
here's where the recipe gets a little confusing. i don't measure anything, it stresses me out. so i really do everything to taste. you'll need:
lime or lemon-squeeze all the juice
salt-probably about 2 tsps (also salt the the chickpeas as they cook)
garlic-i cheat and use the minced (1 tsp) or 1 or 2 cloves
ground cumin-generous amount
ground coriander-generous amount
tahini paste-about a tbsp
olive juice-2 or 3 tsp
water-just enough to make it creamy
food processor
i just dump everything in the food processor and let her go. then give it a taste test. if you like it, then you're done! i cook the whole bag of chickpeas at once but only prepare about half at a time. i go through a bag in a week, easy. this might last you guys a lot longer. but seriously, i am not a good cook and i get so many compliments on this dish. it is my very favorite food.

i have recently been diagnosed with celiac (gluten intolerance) so i can no longer eat pita bread or really anything at all with wheat. so i buy rice crackers (sooooooo gooooood) to pair with my hummus or spoon it on my salad or eat with carrots and other veggies as a snack. i will also take some of the cooked chickpeas and put it on my rice pasta. those little things are pretty fantastic :) if you try it, let me know!!

what matilda wore

summer is in full swing and matilda only wanted to wear flowy dresses. she told me it gets awfully hot in that front window. i told her i don't pay her to complain. she said i don't pay her at all. i said exactly.

summer time

6.2
the family left this morning and now comes the arduous task of cleaning after a week of guests. lame. i'd so much rather do the pre-visit clean. at least there's some fun anticipation with that.
and it's the last day of school!!!!! since i can't even wrap my head around the fact that it means i now have a FIRST GRADER, i'll just be excited that he finished kindergarten and has grown so much. i'm trying to think of super fun things we can do to celebrate the end of the year. i mean, this is a big deal! i remember how pumped i was to finally be rid of school for three months. ahhhhhhh, summer..........
i'm totally gonna show my really geeky, slightly immature side and say that this reminds me of high school musical 2: what time is it? summer time!

She Walks in Beauty

by Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

first of june

6.1
so last night we finally caved and turned on the a/c. it wasn't SO bad, i think it only got to the upper 80s in the house. but, matt's parents were getting a bit toasty in there and since they are staying with us for the next couple nights, we thought we should cool the place down. our goal was to make it to june 1st and we got close enough. matt and i could have suffered through a few more days but the 'rents were struggling. ya gotta look out for your guests. but it has been deliciously hot and humid. like when taking these pictures i was sporting some rad upper lip sweat. tasty, no? but i'm not complaining. i LOVE it :)
