olden times and ancient rhymes

song of the day: 'christmas time is here'
every year i think i'm going to be super adult about christmas. and truly i'm getting better at it. i really don't do a ton of decorating, and this year we're only buying presents for the kids in the family, but deep inside there is a very excited little girl. there's just something in me that gets giddy when i see the twinkle lights come on, when i hear a song on the radio, see a movie on tv. as the season goes on, the scrooge in me melts away little by little til soon there's none of an ebenezer left. i'm almost there. i think we're watching polar express tonight and if i'm not bubbling over with christmas spirit after that, i think there may be no hope.
but it's so fun to see it through your child's eyes. because i think as adults we can lose the magic of christmas. and it's not all about santa and presents. we don't do santa in our house for many reasons, but i want my son to learn that this is a season of love and giving. i want him to be excited about christmas and getting gifts and stuff but that isn't the truth of it. i want him to feel the joy of giving and spending time with family and making great memories. i remember more the fun times i had as a little girl with my family during christmas than i do the gifts i got. and we're starting our own holiday traditions together and what's more awesome than that?! i bought him a fantastic book based on the robert frost poem 'stopping by woods on a snowy evening.' it's beautifully illustrated and he was so excited about it, he brought the book to school for his teacher to read to the class. that just melted my heart. and it's one that we can pull out every single year and read together. ah, i love christmas :)

I love that skirt! Is it a wrap or an A-line? Either way, I love it!

that stole paired with that sweater is just unbelievable!

i like that you guys dont do santa. you're so right - i remember more about the good memories with family than any of the presents i've gotten. it really is about the spirit of the season! :)

I wrote similar sentiments this morning on my
Own post. It is about so much more than the superficial that is for sure!

I love this outfit. The tights with the fur is such a great combo.

And: ooooo! Christmas!!! I LOVE Christmas. We're not going to do Santa in our house either. I figure Christmas is about Christ and Santa kind of distracts from that (also this way, we get all the props for giving the gifts..;-).

Oh, and lovely photos Amanda!

Oh my...that fur collar and those patterned tights are just the perfect touch. Perfect for making a skirt-shirt-sweater combination look far above average. Love the tights so much!!!

Oh, I love the story about the book! I think I would like a copy of the illustrated poem. I like that idea.

And I LOVE this look on you. I kind of get a kid-on-Christmas-morning vibe from it. The intense chunky knit, oversized stole, loafers, plaid skirt and light-colored tights. You look adorable + beautiful. Especially in this gorgeous golden sunshine.

{For some reason I feel like a little girl when I wear light-colored tights. Am I alone in that?}

Cheers to you and your beautiful holiday spirit, ma'am.

That cardigan is delicious. Yes, I feel like a talk show host saying delicious...
I feel like I was having this talk yesterday with the waxing lady... all about Christmas and how to bring it back to what it's all about.

I've never grown out of that childlike excitement for Christmas hahahaha. I'm a little crazy. I watch Christmas movies and celebrate even through the very first week of January because I love it so much. My husband laughs at me this time of year. I love how excited my boys get too so we jump around together like nuts and now my older son tells everyone, "Jesus is coming! It's his birthday too coming!" hehe. so sweet.

I love the scenery with this shoot so much!!! so lovely!! That plaid skirt rocks. Yey plaid ;)

Despite all my supposed academic and non-religious critical distance, I'm also a fool for Christmas. I love the lights and the energy and the excitement. Oh, and presents, of course! :)

The best present in the world would be if someone would send me the twin of that fur. I love it! It's plush and full and such a pretty, wintery color. It's perfect w your plaid, too. Just gorgeous!
