i can't think of much to say.  probably because it's friday and i'm getting ready for an awesome weekend of camping with friends.  it is sure to be a fun-filled time of card games, bonfires, tasty food and drink, music, farmer's marketing, and general shenanigans.  there may even be a dip in the lake involved.  i dunno though, sounds risky.  but you only live once.
have good one.

i painted my shoes.  just with regular old acrylic craft paint, using masking tape to keep my lines straight.  it took about four or five coats to get it just right.  but i sure do like how it came out and it only cost me $1.97.  a little bit proud of myself.  i had thought about taking photos of it for a cute DIY post, but really, i'm not very careful in my preparations or in my execution.  i didn't want to lead you all astray when perhaps there's a better way to do this.  but i will say that if you have a pair of sad and drab shoes laying around the house, you should totally paint them.
and while i'm giving all this sage advice, don't wear a velour top on an 80 degree day in a car with no a/c.  even though it's really cute, you will sweat like a beast.

my sunday was pretty perfect.  the mother's day breakfast and presents in bed you already know about, which that in and of itself would a grand day make.  but then we spent a lovely time in church, took loads of photos in the middle of the street, went home, slipped into my bathing suit and i sunned myself on the deck.  after a light lunch we took a family walk about town and enjoyed more sunshine and each other.  in the evening, friends came over for dinner and we stayed up way too late on a school night talking, laughing, relaxing.  capped off the night with a massage and a hot bath.  yep.  pretty perfect.

mother's day thoughts

mothers day is really one of my favorite days of the year.  it always starts with music and mimosas.  then we pile in bed to eat breakfast and i get showered with hugs and kisses and sweet cards.  this year i also got a rad unicorn painting.
but today is truly about so much more than that.  seven years and nine months ago, i embarked on this crazy journey called motherhood.  i remember looking down at the tiny little boy in my arms with ZERO emotion.  i didn't really know what to think or how to feel.  the first year of his life was spent in a fog trying to figure out who i was and who this kid was that i somehow managed to bring into the world.  it was hard.  a lot of days are hard and i wonder why i got myself into this.  but, there are moments that are sweeter than honey and times that i thank the Lord over and over again for blessing me beyond all measure for this little life i get to shape and mold.  and as he grows up, we become better friends and our relationship changes to accommodate a different level of mother/son intimacy.  it's pretty remarkable really.  as he asserts his independence, i see that he actually depends on me more and more.  not in the all encompassing way of infanthood, but for the safety and comfort i can provide him-both physically and emotionally.  to me, these are much sweeter times than the ones at the beginning of his life.  i realize now that while i'm not a great mother, i AM a good one.  and we are exactly perfect for each other.

i bought this shirt monday on my usual thrift trip.  when i brought it up to the counter to pay, the lady working there said, 'oh hey, this sweater was mine.'  apparently, she prefers her cardigans in solid colors.  luckily for me, i totally dig pattern and anything that is reminiscent of the 80s.  and sweaters previously owned by sweet old ladies that only cost me $3.

my girl paige started snapping pics of wayward shopping carts and now she has a brand new tumblr dedicated to it.  now run, don't walk, over to rogue carts and check it out.  it's the most fun you can have on a wednesday afternoon.
