song of the day: 'the little old lady from pasadena' by the beach boys

you guys were soooooo awesome yesterday! you made me feel a ton better. i mean, i know we all have doubts and confidence issues at some point, but it's like when you're in the middle of it, you think you're all alone and no one else feels that way. it's nice to just have that support :)

so yesterday, i went for a more ladylike look. or maybe more old lady look? i don't know, but i was blog reading before i got dressed yesterday and was inspired a bit by orchid grey. her fur collar is amazing and i loved how she put vintage brooches on it. i decided to use the one given me by matt's grandma. i just love this brooch! it's so pretty, and definitely granny chic.

and i wore my new (read used from ebay) kork-ease sandals. they are the most comfortable shoes ever to be formed by the hands of men. and as a marathon runner nearing the end of 4 months of training, i know comfort! i may need to get other styles and colors of these babies.

and i'm afraid that my roots are starting to show. ugh. that's why i have always been reluctant to color my hair. but, i'm addicted and want to go redder!! so now i'm left with the decision of going it alone with a box or throwing down more money to have my stylist do it. i'm terrified of coloring my own hair, but totally not wanting to spend a load on getting it done in the salon. what to do???? thoughts? advice? any words of wisdom is welcome :)

and yesterday, some fab ladies were tweeting about my pledge!!! that made me smile :) and merl of clyde's rebirth is going to join too! i WILL get the side bar list going, promise.

LOVE love love love this outfit, amanda!!! hair, brooch, collar, lace skirt, knee highs over tights and sandals! nothing i do not like in this outfit! i bet you will make one groovy granny. :)

as for hair coloring...i do my own. but, im a natural blond so its easy to go darker. going lighter is more difficult! i'd get your stylist to get you to the color you want, ask her the color name/brand and then go to sally beauty supply and get your own. thats where i get my goods, and mix everything myself. good luck! (and yay for going more red!!!)

Love the collar! Great outfit altogether, especially the shoes. I usually dye my own hair when I do it (which isn't often). I do it that way because I'm cheap...it never looks as good as a salon would :/ Plus I usually end up with it on my scalp. haha!

This outfit is inspiring! (Even though it was inspired by another) You wear it with such ease...I'm jealous. And I'm drooling over that lace skirt.
As for hair, I always want to go red, but I'm too cheap for the salon, which is what I'd need to go from dark brown to red. You might be able to get red from a box if your natural color isn't too dark, and from the photos it looks light enough for Miss Clairol to do her magic.

Okay... so the F21 shoes, are in fact comfortable. They are also cheap. They photograph fantastically, but LOOK really cheap in person. The bases are the faux woodgrain plastic that children's plastic pretend wood toes would be made of. I was disappointed at first, but then I realized I was never going to spend 130 bucks for nice clogs, so for less than 30 I can deal with cheapie plastic. Check out their website. Or don't. I did and ended up buying 3 pairs of shoes. :)

You are looking so bad ass in these pictures. The color combination is absolutely perfect for fall!

I think you just convinced me to wear knee-high socks. Over tights! Duh! I always thought my legs would look too pale and I have a thing where I don't want to look like a 14 year-old. But you look great!

As for the hair color---I would do the salon. there is nothing worse than too-purple red, or too dark when you're going for something lighter. Not worth it.

Was I one of the fab ladies from twitter?! I love the movement you are starting with all homemade/thrifted presents. If you can find amazing things thrifting, why can't we all?!

Amanda, I love this outfit! I like that you paired the knee highs with tights, I have to try that! I feel too sexy every time I wear knee highs just by themselves. Also, your fur collar looks amazing on you as always.
I say go for the at home hair dye. You can always do semi-permanent or go to the salon if you mess it up. I dyed my hair red for three years in college and the one time I went to the salon my hair came out the exact same color as from the box so I just gave up! I'm excited to see how it looks!

You look amazing, as always! Your sandals look way pretty with tights too. Oh and I am totally taking that pledge. I actually had a blogpost waiting to post about my decision too, so I'm happy to see there are more like-minded people.

you are really killing it lately! i love every single detail about this- the fur collar is so good!

Love it :)

If you do it yourself just don't be silly like I was and colour all over each time. Just do the roots. I am sure you know this already but I royally wrecked my hair that way. In the end no hairdresser would touch it, it was so porous.

Btw. such an amazing location! :)

love this! love the bag, the coat, the socks....everything. and as for hair dying goes...i know how you feel. i want to go darker so bad but i dont want to worry about roots either! i do think you would look awesome if you dyed it redder though :)
