song of the day: 'thriller' by michael jackson
k, so i know it's halloween and this is decidedly NOT a costume. don't you worry your selves about it, i plan to take those pics tonight. i totally forgot to bring my camera to my shop friday when i dressed up to hand out candy to basically every child in town. so i'll have a little photo op this evening before the real trick or treating begins.
so i'll keep this brief today since i'm sure i'll have more news tomorrow. have a great afternoon and happy halloween!!!!!!

don't drink the water

sager
song of the day: 'don't drink the water' by dave matthews band
siloam used to be pretty famous for its natural springs that were thought to have healing properties, which is how it got its name. soon after these springs were discovered, people came from all around to reap the benefits. now, we've discovered that there are gross things in the water and no one is really going to live forever by bathing in or drinking it. however, it's still a huge part of our city. sager creek (named after its founder) winds around historic downtown and up behind the university. that's where i took these photos. the jogging trail runs right along side here and i absolutely love this area. i will have you know that my hands were numb by the time i got back in my car though. it was so cold! it is most definitely fall now.

flash of mauve

10-27
song of the day: 'masquerade' from the phantom of the opera
i'm starting to get a little excited about halloween! i just have to get crackin' on putting together the costumes. but, because of the holiday, i thought it would be nice to get out on a cloudy morning to this crazy little cemetery i found not long ago. it feels a bit haphazard in its layout, but i love its location. up high on a hill in the middle of the woods kinda overlooking the lake. i wouldn't even think of going out here in the dark or even close to dark. yikes. i kept hearing some rustling in the brush and getting a little creeped out. but that's what makes it exhilarating, right?
a few years ago, matt and i went to new york and he surprised me with tickets to see phantom of the opera. it was spectacular! we sat in the third row from the stage, right in the middle. when the chandelier dropped, i swear i could almost reach out and touch it, it was so close. it was such a good show. and masquerade was one of my favorite scenes. i loved all the characters in their colorful ball gowns and masks, and the song is just cool and so different than all the others. just thinking about it makes me want to watch the movie! and wear a super romantic elaborate gown and grow long beautiful hair and walk around singing while being chased by a crazed maniac with a half mangled face. doesn't it you?

back in that bright part of town

10-26
song of the day: 'back in the high life again' by steve winwood
so excited to borrow a power cord while we wait for the new one to come in! and so excited to wear this super, ultra cozy sweater. it has been a little on the warm side lately, but a cool front came through last night and the fall temps are back.
this little section of the park by my house is turning into one of my favorite places in town. it's so very picturesque. i love the stone wall and the creek runs right through here. the park itself has a pretty fountain in the middle with a sculpted garden nearby. and the bridges here are so charming. it's funny how it's taken me going out with my camera to take outfit photos to really appreciate how lovely siloam springs is.

this was on saturday and i was getting rained on! you can probably see the drops hitting the creek in the background. it was kind of a pretty rain though. anyway, i guess i'll say goodbye until tomorrow or whenever i can get this thing charged again!

true colors are beautiful

10-22
song of the day: 'true colors' by cyndi lauper
yesterday was a wonderful and busy day. it began by dropping off the kiddo at school, then running 8 miles. after i got cleaned up and had lunch, i went thrifting (and bought this bag and the loafers), then went to my shop. most of my afternoon at the shop was spent setting up for a really awesome event that we were hosting that evening. it was the 'siloam soiree' for the international princess project and punjammies (pajamma pants). this organization (ipp) is amazing. their mission is to go to india and rescue women out of sexual slavery and give them hope and a future by way of buying them out of prostitution and teaching them to sew. by teaching these women a skill, ipp gives them a chance of living free and restores their dignity. if you have a chance, i encourage you to check out their website. it's really a pretty cool thing.
anyway, we had a ton of people here in the shop to hear about ipp, buy punjammies, eat delicious indian food, get henna tattoos, and watch a fashion show. it was so super fun. i even got to model :) and i'm hoping to sell the punjammies here on a permanent basis. it makes a big difference when you can see the fabrics in person and touch what was made by the hands of women in india who were once in captivity. it's really impactful.

i want candy (and vintage clothes)

here's a little sneaky peek of what's going in the ol' etsy shop in the next couple days. i may be a little bit partial to a few of these pieces, so if something is mysteriously omitted from the store update or all of a sudden disappears or whatever, i had nothing to do it :)
i do hope to start the update this afternoon-ish, but i will follow in other's footsteps and tweet each piece as it's listed, just in case you have your eye on something (that actually makes it into the shop, that is!).

keep warm my dear

trail
song of the day: 'mary jane' by alanis morissette
what a fabulously foggy morning this was! a little bit creepy beautiful, like some zombies were going to come out of it or something. or like in the movie 'the fog' i'd hear a knock on the door and get pulled into it and be gone forever. in taking the kiddo to school, i'm in the drop off line and could barely see the building. it was intense. so perfect for october!
this is another jogging trail that's not too far from my house. these trails are just so fantastic. and this one in particular is very secluded and quiet. i won't run out here if it's dark because it's maybe not the safest area, but during the day it's really nice. the sun through the trees creates a really cool atmosphere and the dappled light is so pretty.
i bought my dress from a lady who came in the shop one day to sell me some of her vintage stuff. at one time, she had quite a collection. her boyfriend was in a band and she would travel with him and write music and buy vintage to collect and sell. doesn't that sound so fantastically amazing? but then her boyfriend passed away and she just kinda lost that drive. and now she's selling off some of her pieces that maybe don't fit anymore or just don't work for her. i got this dress, another dress, a purse, and two faux fur coats. i knew i had to wear this dress at least once before it left my hands. i don't know, it may never leave.

in the early morning rain

10-19
song of the day: 'early morning rain' by peter paul & mary
it rained all night and it's raining now, but i got a break in the showers just long enough to take my photos this morning. i love how the damp makes the bark on the trees darker and the leaves deeper and the sky moodier. i still will always prefer the sunshine, but there is something magical about a rainy autumn day. now if only i could just cozy up on the couch with a blanket, a movie, and my coffee mug all afternoon! that would definitely be magical.
and i want you all to know that i have some fantastic customers that come in my shop. last week, one of my favorite girls came in with this dress. she bought it from another vintage store and wore it but thought it wasn't quite her style. i took one look and knew it was most definitely MY style. i bought it from her and then she ended up buying two sweaters and a belt from me! now that's a good business transaction.
