if only for today

eagle
eagle
song of the day: 'take my breath away' by berlin
isn't this song fantastic in 'top gun'??? and watching tom cruise drive around town on his motorcycle back in his hey-day, with tight jeans and bomber jacket. good stuff. although i do think charlie is a bit on the ugly side. it is my personal opinion that they mis-cast her. it's hard for me to get into their romance when all i can see are her horse teeth and big eyes. just sayin'.
i got this top while in new york at h&m. i saw it hanging up and made a bee line over to it. i love slouchy oversized tops. and this one comes complete with an eagle outlined in sequins. for realz. it was my dream come true. it's so super comfy.
i am so looking forward to this weekend. i can't wait to do some relaxing and hopefully sleep in if my little alarm clock will allow it. i'll be at my shop but that's all that's planned. i'm sure i'll be able to fill it up with stuff, but at least my schedule is pretty free to start with.

it was a long hot night

strapless
song of the day: 'i just died in your arms tonight' by cutting crew
i love spicy food. last night, we went to our favorite thai restaurant with matt's parents. it was their last night visiting and we all went out for a nice dinner. and by nice i mean tasty. this place has amazing food but the atmosphere is a bit lacking. i got my curry and sniffled and sweat my way through the meal. man it was good!!! there is nothing like a hot meal when it's hot outside. are any of you that way? i love spicy food more in the summer than i do in the winter. i think it just adds to the sultriness of the experience. spicy food is just sexier than other foods! am i the only one who feels this way? then again, i have a thing with being hot and sweaty. that's why we wait until the last possible moment to turn on the a/c each year. which is also why i want to move somewhere that stays hot all the time :) surely that's more info than you really need. oh well, now you know!

pinkfloral
song of the day: 'jack and diane' by john mellencamp
a lot of people are already styling fall looks and looking forward to the cooler weather that is surely to come in the next couple months. and as hot as it's been around here, i just can't quite get excited about the cold. i would so much rather sweat. yeah, i know, all i've been doing lately is complain about the weather, but as much as i hate it, i do truly love it. it doesn't make sense, but that's the way it is. but i know the cold is coming because, well, life goes on. yet there are some things to look forward to as the temps get lower: first day of school (for the little one), my birthday, running is easier, and football!!! so it's not a total loss :)
now about the giveaway, i'll probs announce the winner tomorrow morning, so you still have all day today to enter if you haven't yet. so get on that if you want it!

you gave without taking

jumpsuit
song of the day: 'mandy' by barry manilow
sorry i keep talking about this, but i've just under this sort of summer malaise. you know, when you aren't inspired to do anything? truly i just want to sit around all day and not actually put any effort into daily activities. ah, that would be the life. of course, that's why my house is a mess and my etsy store hasn't been updated in ages. sigh. well next month is august and i think by the time the boy goes back to school i'll be in better working order. one can only hope.
jumpsuit
jumpsuit
i've worn this jumpsuit before but this time i tied the back of the pants in a knot. i kinda like how they look a bit like 'hammer pants.' do you guys know what i'm talking about? i realize i'm an old lady and some of you may or may not have been born yet when mc hammer was all the rage but, my stars, everyone had some hammer pants. no one looked particularly good in them but we wore them like they were awesome.
jumpsuit

and i do want to clarify that the giveaway is open to international commenters. i will ship anywhere cuz i know you guys get the shaft a lot of times. and well since it's my giveaway i can do whatever i want :) so if you haven't entered yet, DO IT NOW!

hot summer streets

khaki
song of the day: 'cruel summer' by bananarama
now i am determined to get back on schedule! i have been so busy lately, but i'm sure a lot of you can relate. it seems like we've been doing more this summer than we usually do during the school year. or if not, then i'm just worse at budgeting my time right now which is very likely. i mean, i still have piles of clothes to sort through, clean, photograph and post on etsy. i just can't seem to get it done. and it's so hot to be able to do it too. i sweat through my outfit photos but i don't want to stink up something i'm trying to sell! ah it's a vicious cycle.
khaki

right now my in-laws are in town. matt and his dad competed in a sprint triathlon yesterday. i was so proud of them both. matt's done a couple other races and he's training for a half-ironman, but he finished faster than ever in the one yesterday. and this is the first tri that his dad had ever done. pretty cool if you ask me.
seeing people reach fitness goals is one of the most exciting things for me. i think because i know how unhealthy i was before i started running. i lived a completely different lifestyle then that i can't even imagine at this point in my life. i wasn't overweight or anything, but i just didn't care what i put in my body. it didn't matter if i skipped meals or if i ate cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner. i would try and exercise but i couldn't commit to anything and i'd be very lazy about it. when i started running, i began eating better, stopped a lot of my bad habits, became more aware of my body and how it feels about certain things. i've dealt with depression a few times in my life but since i've started running, that's all gone. it's amazing how being healthy and fit can change your life. i love it!
and with that, i must get going. i'm heading out to meet with some other ladies to run this morning! have a fabulous day:)

it's that time again...giveaway time! so this here is a vintage button ring handmade by felix & jayne. i have three of these rings and i wear one of them almost every single day. for realz. i love them and i get compliments on them left and right. i assume you all like getting showered with oohs and ahhs too so that's why i am offering up this lovely ring. this one has two buttons, the bottom is clear and the top is black, and they are set on a gold adjustable band. so very vintage-y and sophisticated and whatnot.

all the boys think she's a spy

barefoot
song of the day: 'bette davis eyes' by kim carnes
one of the best things about having this blog is finding new friends. it still seems so strange to me that i can make a connection with someone i've never met through blogging, but it is the most rewarding part of this whole thing. you guys get me. and when i'm in a rut, you encourage me. when i'm feeling vulnerable, you give me confidence. this blog is so much more than just putting up pictures of myself in a vain attempt to get compliments. there are moments when i'm like, 'why do i keep doing this?' and after thinking about it a while i realize that i keep all this up because i like you guys and i'd miss you if i went away. so there you have it.
now paige (barefoot & vintage) is one such friend that i've made. she texted me one day last week to get my address because she had something for me. i was so excited to get this adorable shirt in the mail yesterday! i mean, how well does this girl know me?! i'm super into pink right now and i love the little cap sleeves. it just blows me away that she was out thrifting one day and came across this top and immediately thought of me. we've never met but she is just so thoughtful and she gets me. i just couldn't be more flattered. thanks paige!!!

pinkskirt
song of the day: 'eternal flame' by the bangles
this song totally makes me want to slow dance in the school gym and make out behind the bleachers. not that i ever did that crazy stuff or anything.
pinkskirt

i think i may finally be getting back to normal. why does it always take so long to regroup after vacation? it makes it harder when you don't really want to come back. remember when i said i was getting restless? yeah, that makes coming home kinda rough. boo.
plus, it's like 500 degrees out. i know, it's like that everywhere so i shouldn't complain.
the belts on my car are squeaking. well more like squealing like a stuck pig for about a mile down the road. it feels pretty ghetto. i know people are talking about me as i'm screaming past them. they're all 'why doesn't that girl get her car fixed?'
pinkskirt
it feels strange that i'm not wearing anything vintage in these photos. well i guess my ring is made from a vintage button but really that's it. i did thrift my shirt though, so there's something.

there is love

wedding
song of the day: 'the wedding song' by paul stookey
wow. so much to say. i'll start with the wedding on sunday. it was lovely and long and very hot. i do believe that i mentioned that the chapel didn't have any air conditioning? well it didn't and at 3:00 on sunday afternoon it was fairly stifling. everyone in the place was fanning themselves with the program. however, no matter how hot it was, it was still not appropriate to wear a denim romper to the wedding. really. a girl (and by 'girl' i mean someone that is at least 20 and much too old to think it's okay) wore one that she probably picked up at f21 the day before. i was so appalled that i took a picture of her. i may post it later with some other vacation pics. anyways....it was a catholic ceremony so there was a complete mass included in with the nuptials. and an hour later, our friends became man and wife. it was sweet. after a champagne toast, they left the church in a cute antique car.
wedding
the reception, oh the reception. it was fantastic!! now i've been to a couple guatemalan weddings and they are pretty spectacular. this one was amazing. first off, there was a cocktail hour with about 7 tables of full on hors d'oeuvres. there was a table of different cheeses that someone would cut fresh for you, a sushi bar, sausages and shrimp cocktail and on and on. a full open bar all night long. for dinner, there were three courses. the first was a salad all dressed up and fancy, next came a veal cannelloni, and the entree was your choice of four different meals. i chose steak, matt chose lamb. so very delicious. all mixed in was fabulous music by the house band who happened to be super awesome. we danced like a bunch of crazy people and had a blast. then at about midnight, we went back into the first room for some light jazz, dessert, and your choice of hard liquor. of course our choice was single malt scotch. it was pretty amazing. my pictures were taken outside of the reception area. it was so pretty and a very romantic setting for a wedding celebration.
wedding
the light was fading by the time we took these. that's why they're a bit fuzzy. but i was determined to show you this dress. i think it's my favorite vintage dress ever. i do need better undergarments for it though.
wedding

i bought my shoes at a little store in the city. i love them! they're super comfortable and very unlike any shoes i've ever had. kinda like boots but not really. i don't know. i love them though.
wedding
so we got back to the hotel at around 1:00 in the morning on monday. we got up at 5:30 to pack so we could leave by 6:30. a few of our friends were flying out at around the same time so we all piled in the car to make the trek back to laguardia. with monday morning traffic, it took us about an hour and a half to drive in from new jersey (which was where the reception was, we only stayed there the one night). of course our flight was delayed because of weather resulting in us sitting in the airport for 4 extra hours and missing our connecting flight to minneapolis. when we get to minneapolis, we find out that all the other flights going out to our area were either full or done for the day. we had to fly into springfield, missouri and rent a car to drive another 2 hours to my parents' house. we got in around 11:30. our bags managed to make it to tulsa so we had to pick them up over there and drop off the rental car at yet another airport here in arkansas. really, yesterday was the longest day ever especially after only 4 hours of sleep and a slight hangover. we went through five different states to get home. i'm still exhausted. but it was worth it. hopefully, i'll get some rest and be back to my normal schedule tomorrow.

we got fun n' games

laceskirt
song of the day: 'welcome to the jungle' by guns n' roses
yesterday was a pretty relaxing day of a little thrifting, lunch at a fab sushi restaurant, and sitting on a bench looking out at the hudson full of sailboats and seagulls. it was bloody hot, but a really pretty and sunny day. in the evening we had to go to the rehearsal at the little chapel where the wedding will be held on sunday. the place doesn't have air conditioning!!!!! we were all sweating like pigs. the wedding is at 3:00 in the afternoon. i have no idea what we're going to do. pass out most likely.
today i went back into the city with a friend who'd never been before. i thought it brilliant that i, one who has been to manhattan a whopping 3 times, got the pleasure of showing her around the town. armed with my trusty iphone, i google mapped us all around the place and we never once got lost. we shopped till our feet were sore. it was a great day.
laceskirt
i bought this skirt on thursday when we went shopping and i love it! i wish i would've debuted it in a better way though. it's so super cute. i was just running out of clothing that was appropriate for 93 degrees in a big sweaty city. so i had to break it out even if a bit prematurely.
laceskirt
and so right now i am sitting in my hotel room watching 'bridget jones' diary' and drinking wine by myself. matt had some bachelor partying to do so i am left to my own devices. i ran on the treadmill, showered, pulled on some clothes, walked to target, almost bought a pair of jeggings, but then did buy a sandwich, and walked back and plopped down on the bed. excellent.

oh, and the fine people over at weardrobe felt it was fitting to bestow upon me the honor of being in the spotlight today!!! i was so super surprised and excited. i mean, really i'm just me: a silly girl who lives in arkansas and is only mildly cool. stuff like this just never happens to me and sweet paige was the first to let me know! she texted me last night to congratulate me and i couldn't believe it. but then i got an email from weardrobe and then i caught on that it wasn't truly a prank. how cool is that?!

moscow
song of the day: 'call me' by blondie
when i was in louisiana at the beginning of the summer, i found this tote bag at a salvation army. it still had the original tag on it!! now, i love the olympics. like i have an olympic flag that i hang up and i watch it non-stop. my dream is to carry the torch (and win a gold medal but because i'm not particularly gifted in the way of sports i doubt that will happen). and well i was born in 1980 so it was a rather fantastic find for me. i've been using it as my shop bag, i'll throw my laptop and notebook and such in it, but i realized i hadn't shown you guys yet. so here she is. and i picked a song of the day from 1980 to go along with the bag and because i'm cute like that.
moscow
oh and can you spot my leg wound? i had thought about getting a closeup but was afraid i'd gross you out. it looks way better than it did. it finally stopped oozing, so that's a good thing. you can see the overhang that we climbed up on in the pictures. and the metal that scraped off my leg skin. pleasant sounding, eh?
